Kamui Yukar
This fantasy roleplay is inspired by Japanese folktale is loaded with spirits, yokai and kami. The human world and the spirit world are in separate realms but beings can move between the two through portals. Where the spirit world closely resembles feudal Japan, the human world takes place in the modern day Kyūshū Region of Japan around Mt. Aso.
The gods play an important role in both worlds, answering prayers and performing miracles; some even control the season and the tides. Each god has a shrine dedicated to them in both or either world so they may be worshiped properly. Treated like Kings and Queens, gods may have a multitude of servants but their familiar is the most important one. A god’s familiar is normally a yokai that is bound to the god with a contract to protect and obey the god unwaveringly.
In the Spirit World a new Yokia King has risen to power mostly unnoticed by his subjects due to his swift and quiet ascension to the throne. While the nobles struggle to determine how he will rule over them, they must also worry about their own subjects. Over half of the territories are in famine, and fewer and fewer young are being born. To make matters worse portals between the worlds are also shrinking in number, becoming few and far between, so lords have trouble entering the human world to retrieve resources.
